Worldview International Foundation pioneering

in support of UN Paris Climate Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals

The most urgent need is to reduce CO2 climate gases accumulated in the atmosphere. Restoring lost mangrove forests is the most cost-effective method, nature`s own solution tested for millions of years. By 2021, over 20,5 million high-value mangrove trees are in healthy growth, capturing and storing CO2 climate gases 5 times more than terrestrial trees.

WIF cooperates with private and public partners in cost-effective offsets of carbon footprints. Our specialty is mangrove restoration and conservation with livelihoods and sustainable community development.

Mangroves planted

WIF has since 1979 pioneered 620 sustainable development projects in 26 countries.

Latest highlights:

Our mangrove trees are growing

Captured 60.000 tons last year, which is 15 times more carbon captured than the worlds largest industrial capture factory in Iceland captured in a year.

80.000 tons

In 2022 we are expecting 80.000 tons with a new 8400 ha project ready for verification by VERRA. Total estimate for 2023 is expected to over 100.000 tons.

Access to 100.000 ha

WIF has now got access for planting on 100.000 ha in 3 countries. This represent total mitigation of over 150 milion tons during the next 25 years, equal to 3 times more CO2 than Norways yearly emissions.

Blue Carbon captured by the world’s oceans, representing more than 55% of the green carbon (captured by plants). The carbon captured by living organisms in oceans is stored in the form of sediments from mangroves, salt marshes and seagrasses. It does not remain stored for decades or centuries (like for example rainforests), but rather for millennia.

The mighty Ocean is the cradle of life on our Blue Planet. It is our lifeline at a time of climate emergency.

The Ocean is the most effective carbon climate mitigator, circulating 83% of global carbon. Its algae production and mangrove shorelines are vital for its contribution to climate restoration and conservation, production of seaweed, conservation of seagrass and coral reefs, and production of kelp, which are all practical solutions with the highest effect on mitigation, as well as maintaining biodiversity and promoting life-bearing ecosystem services. These project activities generate substantial value for financing and carbon income. The carbon market is expanding and interest in high-value blue carbon is fast increasing.

Restoring lost mangrove forests is a practical, meaningful contribution in strengthening nature’s own methods for climate balance, tested over thousands of years. Planting miracle mangrove trees is more than a vision, it is a celebration for life on Earth. Believing in a livable future is more than a dream, it is a commitment to our global village.

Co2 mitigation:

According to internationally accepted VCS methodology, each tree mitigates a minimum of 500 kg CO2 over 20 years.

How we spend your contribution:

  • 67 % for tree-planting and monitoring
  • 25 % for sustainable development/poverty reduction
  • 8 % for administration and reporting

By using Open Forest satellite pictures, supporters will be able to observe their trees via registered polygons.

An annual audit report will be available for supporters

Mangrove Restoration & Conservation

The project started in 2012 and is based on three years of research on the restoration of mangrove in all coastal areas as a protective shield against the effects of climate change as well as the increased production of sea food. In addition, mangrove as an effective mitigating factor for Green House Gases was also studied.

Sustainable Development

62% of the population in the communities are below UN´s poverty index. Our aim is to increase earnings with over 100% during the next 5 years by focusing on livelihoods and generating income as part of the mangrove restoration in adaptation to climate change.

Bio Diversity

Bio-diversity is not only to uphold existing flora and fauna, but also to enrich the environment with additional value such as establishing the first mangrove gene bank with 64 species of mangroves and related species. We are also protecting endangered species with focus on elephants, dugongs and sea turtles in the park area.

We appreciate the difficult and complicated work that Worldview International has completed in order to bring this high value, carbon
emission reduction project to fruition. To undertake a project of this scope, to involve the community in the way that it has done, to
complete the necessary validation, monitoring and verification required in a remote area such as this is truly Herculean. We are proud to work with Worldview
and to offer this incredible project to our clients.

The Climate Conference in Paris in December 2015 gave hope for the future. In order to keep temperature under 2 degrees C, there is an urgent need for immediate action. In addition to reducing emissions, mitigating CO2 already in the atmosphere is equally important. Protecting the world’s rain forests and restore lost mangrove forests are essential in reaching the desired goals. One of the countries with the greatest need for mangrove restoration is Myanmar. Worldview International Foundation’s pioneering project “Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park” with 2,5 million new trees and millions more to come, is an example of practical solutions to the biggest challenge in our time.

Arne’s enthusiasm made me realize that we all can contribute positively to climate change. To work with people who are eager to see fast results is key with the challenges we face. The park has a wonderful feeling of optimism, the people working there understand how their contribution helps their local community and the world. The climate park’s documentation showcases how efficient nature is in capturing and storing carbon. It also reminds us how about quickly we can help restore what we have damaged.
